After play group today we went to visit our OB, Dr Bopp for our weekly check up. I am 38 weeks tomorrow and the count down to Squiggles arrival is on! My blood pressure was perfect once again which is great news at this stage of a pregnancy.

Dr Bopp checked on the baby and found that he had moved down slightly, which says to me that he must be getting ready to join us! Let’s just hope he can stay in there until after Addison’s birthday on Wednesday.

We again discussed his schedule and roster. He will be on duty the 7th November (I’m due anywhere from the 8th to 10th, depending on if you go by scans or my dates etc. That’s why I have just being going by the 9th).

Dr Bopp is actually away from the Monday to Friday after my due date which makes me hope that Squiggle comes before then, you just never know. A week and a half is a little long for me to go over to wait until he gets back, but we both agree that we think that the baby will make his arrival long before then anyway. So at this point let’s just hope for the first week of November!

Usually Daddy comes too, but we could only get a morning appointment and Daddy has meetings on all day. But that’s ok, he does his best to get to them when he can. Work is very busy for him and we do what we can to work around it.

Everything is looking well with Squiggle. He is still head down and mostly kicking on my right side with his back to the left. My fundal height measurement is 33 cms which is right on track for my weeks into the pregnancy. It is going to be a very busy time over the next few weeks, but I’m loving every minute.

I do feel quite uncomfortable sometimes as Squiggle is growing and getting less and less room to move but I know that it won’t be for much longer and we will get to meet our new little man!

Our next appointment with our OB, Dr Bopp will be in 2 weeks time. From then it will be every week until the birth. I also plan to get my hospital bag all packed and ready at week 35, just in case.

I made it! Today I am 40 weeks pregnant and have reached my due date according to our first ultrasound (remember our due date based on my LMP is actually tomorrow 28th October 2010). However, I am still pregnant, Addison has not arrived yet so therefore the wait continues!

So far I’ve had two phone calls to check up on me, I guess everyone thinks that Addi is going to arrive today. But we have to remember that less than 5% of babies are actually born on their due date, so the likely hood of it happening for us is very slim!

I’ve been very impatient this week waiting for his arrival, but at least I have some guarantee that by this time next week I will be a mummy and holding my baby in my arms!

Labour will be induced next Tuesday night if he hasn’t shown up by then, which there are some positives to such as I’m guaranteed that my obstetrician, Dr Bopp will be the one to deliver my little boy. I also won’t have the stress of calling and knowing when I should start heading to the hospital, as I’ll already be checked in on Tuesday night. Plus I will be home for the weekend with my baby for some daddy time :).

I have to say I am very ready to have this baby, but I don’t think he is ready to join us out here. He seems to still be sitting quite high, pushing up under my ribs which makes it very hard to breath and is very uncomfortable. He also likes to boot me in the side with his feet frequently!

There is a lot of pressure on my bladder which makes night time and my sleep very broken. It can also get quite very painful if I don’t empty my bladder frequently at night. I’ve still been having a great deal of swelling in my feet and ankles which can be painful when I have to stand for long periods of time, such as when I make dinner.

I think my body is also ready for his arrival as my breasts have started leaking! Thankfully I’m only at home and therefore have not had any embarrassing situations.

At least I’m not anxious about labour and birth!

Well we made it to Friday, which is the date that we needed to make sure that Addison wasn’t born before, due to our private health insurance cover. This basically means that whenever our little boy is ready he can make an appearance and we will not be out of pocket thousands of dollars!

We went to see our obstetrician this morning for our 39 1/2 week check up and once again everything is well with myself and Addi.

Fundal height measurement was 39cms, which is right on track and my blood pressure was the same as last week at 115/70. He didn’t check my cervix this week, he said that we will wait and see how I’m travelling next Monday when I will be past my due date.

If I haven’t had Addison by my 40 1/2 week Monday appointment then I will be admitted to hospital on Tuesday night and labour will be induced. The birth of Addi will then hopefully be on the Wednesday 3rd November if everything goes well. Inducing labour can however be a little bit of a slow process and is a last resort.

Doctors don’t like to let a pregnancy go for longer than 41 weeks in this day and age (I say this as both Charles and myself were born 2 weeks late) as the integrity of the placenta can be compromised, putting the baby at risk.

At least if labour does need to be induced I’m guaranteed of having my obstetrician deliver Addison due to the roster system of the hospital. Now it is just a waiting game!!

Not much can beat the feeling of knowing I’ve come this far and there is only 1 week to go (there abouts). Plus not forgetting that our private health insurance kicks in on Friday, so only have to make it through today and tomorrow without having a baby!

Everyone is probably sick of hearing me say it but I’m so excited!!! There is so much that I’m looking forward to. It is funny to think that I’m actually looking forward to changing nappies and being woken up at all hours, anything just to know I have this special little person in my life.

Now I just have to pray that everything goes well for the birth and Addison arrives safe and sound, and above everything else, healthy. I actually think that I’m going to miss having him inside me after such a long time. But I guess that all the cuddles will compensate just fine!

I have to say (thinking of my tummy as usual haha) that I can’t wait to be able to eat all the things I haven’t been able to for the past 9 months! And what a Christmas we will have this year!!

Physically in the last week I think I’m getting used to the broken sleep with the amount of trips to the bathroom, it is great preparation for when Addison arrives! Probably why our bodies work the way they do, to get us ready for the fun times ahead :). My feet are still unfortunately puffy and swollen, but all that won’t matter soon enough.

Today I have reached 38 weeks of my pregnancy and am getting more and more excited about the arrival of our baby boy! Not long now with only two weeks to go, I can’t wait.

I’ve been feeling quite tired recently and have been doing my best to get as much sleep as I can because I’m sure we are going to have a wild ride over the next few months with not a great deal of sleep!

This week has been frustrating with swelling feet, I do my best to stay off them and keep them elevated but it doesn’t seem to help. I’ve also resorted to putting a wrapped ice pack on them occasionally to help reduce the swelling of my feet and ankles. At least my blood pressure is not up, so no need to worry about them too much. I just do my best to relieve any discomfort.

As for my actual size I’m really not finding that I’m uncomfortable at all. Addison still loves to get up under my ribs which is the most discomfort I would face (not much to complain about in the grand scheme of things). He continues to have hiccups about 3 or 4 times a day and moves around a great deal. They say that babies slow down with the movements in the later stages of pregnancy… I guess Addi didn’t get the memo about that one!

Today we had our appointment with the obstetrician to check on my and Addison’s progress. Everything is going very well with the pregnancy. My blood pressure was 120/70, which is great – he did take it twice however as it was a little higher than normal when I arrived but had gone down after I had settled.

Addison is still head down and the fundal height is measuring at 37cms (I’m still 104cms around the waist) so right on track as far as size and presentation.

We also discussed dates and were told that labour would be induced if Addi isn’t born prior to 3rd November, but we would see how I’m going at 40 weeks and if I am comfortable to wait. I would prefer to have a natural birth, so we will wait and see.
