Today I am 16 weeks pregnant and have actually been suffering from some nasal congestion over the last few weeks. After some research I found that due to my heart now working twice as hard as normal, and the increased blood supply some of the side effects of this is nose bleeds and nasal congestion. This tends to happen around 16 weeks, and here I was blaming the renovations of the master bedroom! It may also have something to do with it, but thankfully I haven’t had any nose bleeds, just the congestion. Unfortunately this congestion really doesn’t help me to sleep well at night time.

At 16 weeks of pregnancy generally you have gained anywhere between 2.2 and 4.5 kgs depending how sick you were in the first trimester. I just did my measurements and today I weigh 57.5 kgs which is a 3.5 kgs weight gain from my starting weight of 54 kgs. As you know I had no morning sickness at all so I believe I am right on target for a healthy weight gain for this stage of pregnancy.

I also did the measurement of my belly (you would have seen the 16 week baby belly photo I just posted) and I currently measure 86 cms at the largest point. Unfortunately I do not know what I started at, as I never did measure my tummy. In fact I only know my starting weight due to using my wii fit before becoming pregnant. I can tell you that I have gained 2 cms around my waist from week 12 of my pregnancy.

As you know I have been doing research following each week of pregnancy and soon I will be sharing all my research with you in the form of articles so you can be informed about your own pregnancy. It will be a working progress as I do more research week by week as my pregnancy develops. The information that I will have on the site will also have some general information pages about food risks, exercise during pregnancy and the early symptoms of pregnancy just to name a few.

A little fun fact about your baby, at 16 weeks your baby’s head beings to straighten out and measures about 11.5 cms long from crown to rump and weighs approximately 100 grams (these are some of the great little bits of info that I will include in my articles). I’m really looking forward to sharing my research with you very soon.
