This morning I had a very proud Mummy moment! Months ago I showed Addison how to use the toy scissors that come with his play dough set and he wasn’t all that interested in doing it. Today we were playing with his play dough and all of a sudden he pulls out his scissors from the play dough tools and starts cutting the play dough!

I of course ran for the camera! I couldn’t believe it, without being shown again or any encouragement to do it he knew exactly what to do. He struggled to get them open so he used both hands to open them, put the scissors on the table and then put his fingers in the holes to pick them up, squeezing them closed to cut. He did it over and over!! Such a clever little button.

What a clever boy. It’s great to see the concentration on his face and to think he has stored what he learnt from watching you until he was ready to try it. I’m amazed at how quickly a child learns given the opportunities. You give Addi such a rich environment of experiences.

He learns so fast when he is interested in something and I think that’s what we have learnt with Addi. When he is interested you jump on that and just do everything you can think of to help him learn (like with his ABCs and numbers at the moment).

He goes through phases with what he wants to do. He hasn’t done much drawing recently but a while back that’s all he wanted to do. Now it’s letters and numbers but I’m sure he will change to something else again.

I do my best to give him lots of different things to do, but I’m not a kindy teacher etc so I’m sure there is plenty more I could be doing with him. I figure anything is better than nothing!
