I have a rule about the rides at the stores (you know, those dreaded coin operated rides that all kids are drawn to). I do not put money in them. Cruel? Maybe. But when you go to the shops as often as I do, you do not want to be begged for a ride every single time! I’d be able to save a small country with the money I would spend if I gave in. I do however let them sit and pretend. Heck, I don’t think my kids even knew they moved for years into their lives! The only time that I allow them to have a ride (and I could probably count on one hand how many times this has happened) is a treat from their grandparents. This is the only time, and honestly it is for the best. It makes it a proper treat, a treat that isn’t ruined by having it too frequently.

We all love to treat and spoil our kids, and I’m guilty of over doing this, just like most. It is so very hard to keep the balance. Whether it is a toy from the shops, a treat take away meal… whatever it might be, there has to be some balance, or it’s no longer a treat.
