I wasn’t planning on having a cake for the baby shower, simply going to make cupcakes. Then in typical Melissa fashion I started looking at images of Alice in Wonderland cakes. I came across one where Alice had fallen down the rabbit hole and had that silly thought “I wonder if I could make that?” This is a thought that I get quite often and really need to stop having!!

Having never done anything at all like this I do think I was a little crazy to attempt it, but in the end I got there and it turned out rather well. Alice’s legs ended up a little chunkier than I wanted, but I was having a lot of trouble with the icing so in the end it was necessary. I figure she was just going out in sympathy with me and my huge, swollen pregnant legs!! The top also had little white roses made of icing and edible heart sprinkles. I also made the cupcakes to go along with the cake… they are paint the roses red cupcakes.

To display them I used the cake stand that we had made for Addison’s first birthday party (a teddy bear’s picnic theme) and re-trimmed it with new heart ribbon to match the Alice theme. It was the perfect cake stand for this cake with the trunk and grass matching perfectly.

Here are the photos of the cutting of the cake (very hard to do after so much work had gone into making it!). The inside of the cake is a multi layer blue omber cake.
